Hot fashion trend seeps into the backyard in this year's ASID home tour

This year's ASID Arizona South home tour on October 27th, in association with Tucson Lifestyle Home & Garden, gives us five homes and the theme 'Designing Inside Out'. Our top picks from the tour:

* Kathryn Prideaux of Prideaux Design, who used a color block technique we're seeing right now in fashion to make a backyard she affectionately calls her "desert jewel box". The colors were inspired by a piece of plaid fabric her clients loved on their kitchen bench.

Blue and orange tile mix with stacked stone and bright planters to produce a palette that in some ways she took a chance on. "I remember when the [orange] tile backsplash went up and the contractors were just like, 'Wow'. There's that moment when you question, 'Is this going to work?'" says Kathryn.

As well as all that color, there's a 'spool', a fire and a nap bench. Read more about Kathryn in Pleased to Meet You.

* Look out for copper slate facing and 3-dimensional wall pop-outs on the patio of Michele Carnes' design, plus a pop-up TV on the outside bar.

* The TV's in the home by David Knittle are cleverly hidden behind motorized works of art, and the speakers are invisible.

When it is: Saturday October 27, 2102 10am– 5pm. Tickets $30 in advance or $35 day of event.
